Restore Your Core: A Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Group Exercise Class
I am offering a small group class designed to help women safely return to exercise after pregnancy and childbirth. This class is appropriate for mothers of all ages and stages. If you are having trouble getting re-acquainted with your body postpartum or if you have a diagnosed condition such as diastasis rectus abdominus, pelvic organ prolapse, or urinary incontinence, this class is for you. We can accommodate your needs and provide the education and support you need to safely return to movement and exercise. This class is unique because is not just a group exercise class and its not an individual physiotherapy session, but somewhere in between.
This is a pre-registered series of 8 weekly classes held at Cumberland Physio and Yoga. There will be a Tuesday morning 10:30am-12:00pm and a Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00pm class (provided minimum enrolment is met) starting January 23rd through til March 13th. The total cost for 8 classes is $200. This class is run by Lindsay Ishoy, a registered physiotherapist who has specific training and experience in pelvic floor women’s health physiotherapy and yoga therapy. Because this class is a customized group treatment based upon individual assessment and re-assessment, we can provide receipts that can be submitted to health benefit plans for reimbursement. We recommend you check with your benefits plan to make sure that they will cover “group exercise treatment.”
The classes will be 75 minutes in length. The first class will include education, individualized assessment, and the basics of pelvic floor and core activation. Throughout the series we will progress through functional exercises in different positions to improve the strength and co-ordination of all the muscles associated with your core. Each exercise will have different variations to make sure everyone is challenged while moving and breathing well. The final class will involve an individual re-assessment. Everyone will be sent off with a set of challenging independent exercises to continue independently.

Once we have enough interest from patients, I am hoping to offer regularly scheduled therapeutic yoga classes (groups of 4-6) as a means for patients to stay motivated and connected in the long run. The small group setting allows for individuals to feel safe and supported. It also creates space for modifications to be tailored to the group on any given day.
Stay tuned for when these classes might be starting up…
